Master Michael Chung, 4th Degree Black Belt I have studied Tae Kwon Do ever since I was 4 years old. First and foremost under my father, and then under several of my wonderful elder instructors who have had past experiences in war, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and self defense situations. Currently, I am a fourth degree black belt. I have been teaching martial arts for approximately 8 years. Because I consider myself an enthusiast of the craft, and due to my fortunate experience with several instructors, I can't help but try my best to study, observe, and learn the different aspects that every martial art has to offer. Basically, I love it all! In my opinion, the greatest reward I derive from teaching is being involved in people's lives. I enjoy showing them what they may gain from studying the martial arts. I believe people can benefit not only in the physical and self defense aspects, but also the mental aspects such as gaining confidence or experiencing the serene Eastern philosophies that help reduce stress or help one find a better way of coping with life. This is one of the main reasons of why I remain motivated to teach in this field. The other reason is that teaching is great fun! I am a sincere fan of the martial arts but I also believe in its power to change people’s lives. My future goals in the martial arts are to extend the knowledge of Tae Kwon Do to anyone who is willing to learn, and to help people experience all of its benefits while expanding my knowledge of the martial arts. I have a Bachelor of Science in Movement Science/Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have future plans to work in the medical field where I believe I can further expand my knowledge in order to help make the world a better place.
