Frequently Asked Questions
| 1. | Do I have to be in shape to take Tae Kwon Do/Hap Ki Do? | | | Absolutely not. It is our job to slowly and gradually get you into shape. | | | | | 2. | What is comprised in each Tae Kwon Do class? | | | Each Younger Child (three and older), Older Child (ages eight and older) and Adult Class has a specific level: Beginner, Advanced or Open. | | • | Beginner classes are specifically for White-Green Belts. Advanced classes are for Hi-Green to Black Belts. Open classes are for everyone. Most typically on Friday evenings, classes are activity specific such as sparring or demonstration team class. | | | • | A typical open class begins with a low impact warm up, followed by a step by step stretching routine and then martial art exercises such as kicking or punching a pad. After a brief break, the adult class will conclude with a cool down exercise which consists of Tae Kwon Do forms and Hap Ki Do self defense skills; while the children's class will conclude with Tae Kwon Do forms, optional board breaking practice or a fun activity. |
| | | | | 3. | How long do the classes typically last? | | | Classes typically last 30-45 minutes for children depending on their age and 60 minutes for adults. | | | | | 4. | At what age can my child begin to take martial arts? | | | We can accept any child three years old and older; however, this also depends on how well your child can cope in class. Also, we have a Mini-Tigers program geared specifically for three and four year olds in order to prepare them for the higher level Tae Kwon Do classes. | | | | | 5. | What is the frequency of classes that I would attend each week? | | | It is recommended that most beginning children and adult students attend two classes per week. Innitially, it is not unusual for adults to feel some of the effects from newly training in a martial arts specific exercise. Two classes a week can give the body adequate time to recover. | | | | | 6. | Can I request private lessons? | | | Absolutely. You may schedule a private session with a specific instructor to accompany your current Tae Kwon Do training or request a specific private program in which you are exclusively instructed each week. | | | | | 7. | What should I do if I want to observe or try out a Tae Kwon Do class? | | | Just give us a call at (773) 631-8989. We will be glad to make an appointment for you to experience one of our exiciting classes. However, anyone under the age of 18 or still under the guidance of a parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by them when arriving to a trial class. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
